Pre-Matric Scholarship for Minority Students in Karnataka 2025

Pre-Matric Scholarship for Minority Students in Karnataka: Easing Financial Barriers to Education

Education is a fundamental right, yet financial constraints often prevent talented students from minority communities from fully realizing their potential. To address this challenge, the Government of Karnataka offers the Pre-Matric Scholarship specifically designed for minority students up to Class 10, facilitating access to quality education and empowering future generations.

What is the Pre-Matric Scholarship?

The Pre-Matric Scholarship scheme is a financial aid program aimed at students belonging to minority communities, including Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and Parsis, who are studying in Classes 1 to 8 in recognized schools within Karnataka. It is targeted especially towards students from economically disadvantaged families, ensuring continued schooling without financial disruption.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be a resident of Karnataka.
  • The student should belong to one of the notified minority communities.
  • The student must be enrolled in a government, government-aided, or recognized private school from Class 1 to 8
  • The family’s annual income should not exceed ₹2 lakh.
  • Priority is given to students who have secured a minimum of 50% marks in the previous final examination.
  • The scholarship is available only until the completion of Class 10 (or Pre-Matric level).

Benefits of the Scholarship

  • The Pre-Matric Scholarship covers essential expenses such as:
  • Tuition fees
  • Maintenance allowance for day scholars and hostellers
  • Examination fees
  • Additional allowances as per government norms

The maintenance allowance ranges vary, with higher amounts allocated for hostellers to cover boarding and lodging expenses effectively.

Application Process

  1. Online Registration: Students or their guardians must apply online through the Karnataka State Scholarship Portal or the Directorate of Minority Welfare’s official website.
  2. Document Submission: Required documents include minority community certificate, income certificate, school admission proof, and academic records.
  3. Verification: Applications undergo verification at the school and district levels to ensure eligibility.
  4. Disbursement: Scholarship amounts are directly transferred to the student’s Aadhaar-linked bank account to avoid delays and intermediaries.

Importance for Minority Communities

Many students from minority backgrounds face socio-economic challenges that hinder their educational progression. This scholarship acts as a crucial support system by reducing the financial burden on families and keeping children in school, thereby promoting literacy and educational equality.

Tips for Applicants

  • Apply early before the deadline to avoid last-minute submission issues
  • Keep all required certificates and documents updated and ready.
  • Maintain good academic performance to increase chances of renewal.

Contact your school’s minority welfare officer or nearest Directorate of Minority Welfare office for assistance.
